Weight Loss Journey

Hi girls,

Today I'm going to talk about something that I probably get asked about the most. I can't even remember how many times I've had the question asked, 'how did you lose your baby weight?'. Honestly whenever I see that question I get the sense that you guys think there is some huge secret weight loss tip that I'm holding onto, which if I share it will change your life. I guess that's one of the reason's why I haven't blogged about this topic before, because the truth is there is NO secret!

After I had Aydin I had about 10 kg (22 lbs) to lose to get back to pre-baby weight. Sadly I wasn't one of those lucky mom's who just snapped back to their pre-baby jeans in a week. Initially it was really strange for me because I had never been in that position of trying to lose weight before. I have always been petite and slender my whole life, without even trying, I guess thanks to a fast metabolism. And now I was in this position and I went through all the usual self insecurities that I'm sure all new moms go through about their appearance. After about 2 weeks of getting used to being a mom which God knows is a huge adjustment on its own, I got determined and put myself in serious weight loss mode. So today I'm going to go through all the tips and things that worked for me. Also I just want to add that there is no rule that says you must go back to your pre-baby weight. If you're happy with your body that's the only thing that matters, whether you've had a baby or not. Self acceptance is the most important thing, no matter what size you are.

Will Power

This is really the most important thing in my opinion. You could be following any diet out there but if you don't have the mindset to stick through it, its going to be so much harder to see any change. If you're going to be serious about it then you're going to have to pass on desserts and carb heavy foods which I KNOW is so hard to do but you can do it. Take an image of how you want to look and burn it into your brain. Anytime you come across temptation, think of that image so that you get motivated. The worst is when you eat clean for a few days and then fall off the wagon with a huge cheat meal and then all that good eating is wasted. Losing weight requires a momentum to be built up slowly, at least that's what I experienced with my body. Only after eating clean for 3-4 days did I start to de-bloat slowly.

3 Small Meals

Stick to eating 3 small meals a day. I know some diets say 5 small meals or 2 meals but this is what worked best for me. The main thing though is to limit your calories, I tried to keep mine between 1000-1200 a day. I'm not a dietician but I'll give you guys an example of one day's meals:


1 boiled egg + 1 cup of tea (milk and 1/2tsp sugar)


A whole wheat wrap with lean sliced turkey slices, low fat cheese like havarti, baby spinach and maybe a few pieces of avocado.


Baked fish + baked veggies

You can add and experiment with whatever your preferences. Cook your meals with very little oil, and cut out butter completely.

Eat Small Portions

This sort of relates to the 3 meals a day. Basically don't take a big dinner plate and fill it up, take a smaller bowl and use that for your meals. Small portions will train your stomach and it will shrink so you won't be hungry all the time.

Eat Slower

I have a really bad habit of eating my food at supersonic speed. I've been trying to eat slower because your brain is better able to process whats happening and send the right signals to your stomach when you're full. If you eat too quickly you won't know when you're full and could over eat which I think a lot of us are guilty of. Also eating slowly is more enjoyable because you get to taste your food more.

NO Processed Foods!

Just no. Stay away from all junk food, even anything from the grocery store that might be in packaging and looks processed. Try and prepare all your meals from scratch yourself because then you know exactly whats going in and how many calories are in it, and there won't be any added hidden salt and sugar. Which leads me to....

Cut down SALT!

Salt is a huge cause of bloating. You won't even realise how much of your excess weight could just be water weight due to eating foods with high salt. After time you can train your taste buds to eat food with less salt and you won't even notice the difference. So put away that salt shaker!


I think its safe to say we all know about drinking loads of water so I wont get into it. But yea keep drinking that H2O because it flushes away toxins, helps with de-bloating, fills you up so you don't get random hunger pangs and also great for skin! I fill up a large water bottle and keep it with me. Extra tip: Squeeze a bit of fresh lemon in it for added taste if you get bored.

Healthy Snacks

These are a good way of keeping hunger pangs at bay. Snack on things like roasted (unsalted) nuts or cucumber slices. You can eat as much cucumber as you like, its full of water and no calories. You can look up other healthier snack options as well but these were my go to.

Daily Multi Vitamins

I always make sure I take a daily multi vitamin when I start my day. I don't know if it will have a huge affect on your weight loss but it can't hurt either. If you're on a diet you might not be getting all your daily vitamins and minerals so its always a good idea to include one into your diet, and also its great for your hair and skin.

Working Out & Staying Active

Now I'm the kind of person who absolutely hates working out, so I never went to the gym but its obviously a good idea to add that to the mix. If you're not into gymming, maybe start doing an activity that you do like. I'm totally aware that new moms won't have a lot of time to get to the gym, so maybe look online and find a routine that you can do at home when baby is napping. What worked for me was simply staying very active all day. With a new baby and not a lot of help, it wasn't hard for me to be on my feet all day. So in the longer run what helped my weight loss the most, was keeping up with a new born baby and its needs and as he grew up chasing after him!

So to wrap up; the saying 'eat less, move more' basically sums it all up! Watch your diet, follow these tips, and you should get results. It won't be over night, but its about making lifestyle changes that will benefit you in the long run. Let me know if you have any questions or leave any comments below!
